A Bit About Us

In 1976, a family tradition was born. Elena and Filippo Giambanco, along with their three children, moved to Tappahannock and opened the area's first Italian restaurant. Their first menu offered pizza, submarine sandwiches, and basic Italian dishes like spashetti and lasagna. Mamma made her favorite, traditional Italian sauces while Pappa helped in the kitchen. Their children prepared the food, waited on the customers, and ran the register. It was a real family-run business.

As the children grew up and moved out, they kept their passion for great Italian dining. Anthony, the eldest, now owns Roma Ristorante - Staples Mill. Anna and her family own and operate two Roma's of their own, in Sandston and on Nine Mile Road. Johnny owns Roma Tappahannock and still enjoys the help of his parents, from time to time.

As Johnny grew into his role as owner, he expanded the menu. Based on his travels to New York, he would eagerly return to his own kitchen, recreating great new meals with his own flair. The restaurant also features a full, daily salad bar with the freshest ingredients. Johnny still uses Mamma's sauce recipe and still makes the dough fresh, every morning.

The Giambanco family is proud to be a part of the Tappahannock area. Our first customers are returning today with their grandchildren, sharing a meal and good conversation just as they shared with their parents over 30 years ago. Come and be a part of a local tradition - join the family!
